Ludlow doesn't get talked about much compared to Springfield or Chicopee, but the people who live there tend to love it. It has a strong Portuguese-American community, good schools, and a small-town feel with easy access to Springfield via the Chicopee River corridor.
We've done a lot of moves in and out of Ludlow. Here's what we've learned.
The roads you need to know
Center Street is Ludlow's main drag - running through Ludlow Center, it's where most of the town's commercial activity clusters. West Street and East Street branch out from there into residential neighborhoods.
The eastern side of Ludlow gets hillier and more rural as you head toward the Palmer line. Some of the roads out that way are narrow with limited truck access - always mention this to your mover when you're booking.
Route 21 connects Ludlow to I-291, which is your fast connection back toward Springfield and I-91. If you're moving from Ludlow to Hartford County or vice versa, this is the route we use.
What the housing stock looks like
Ludlow is primarily single-family homes. You'll find a lot of well-maintained ranches and colonials from the 1960s through the 1990s, particularly in Ludlow Center and the neighborhoods off West Street. There's also newer development on the edges of town.
Many Ludlow homes have finished basements - which means more square footage to move. If you have a full finished basement, make sure your mover accounts for it when estimating the job. We always do a thorough walkthrough for this reason.
The Ludlow-Springfield connection
A lot of Ludlow moves involve Springfield in some way - families moving out of the city for more space, or kids who grew up in Ludlow moving into Springfield apartments. We do this run regularly.

One thing that comes up in Ludlow more than most towns
Ludlow has a meaningful number of multi-generational households. We frequently do moves where part of a family is relocating to be closer to parents, or where adult children are helping elderly parents downsize. These moves require patience and care - we take that seriously.
